The origin of the "RV Syllabus" is similar to the fly ONSPEED experiment...when I retired from active duty after 23 years of flying fighters and bought my RV-4, I started to look around for transition training resources to familiarize myself with the airplane before flying it.  Other than some excellent "how to's" in the old RVator newsletters, I realized there wasn't a compressive resource where I could learn normal and emergency procedures, performance and aircraft handling characteristics.  The FAA Advisory Circular 90-109 "Airmen Transition to Experimental or Unfamiliar Airplanes" formed the basis of initial training manual project.  Since the AC is generic, the "RV Syllabus" was intended to be specific and includes a section on program management (lesson plans, etc.) that is designed for flight instructors conducting transition training, sections on Normal and Emergency Techniques and Procedures that is written in a pilot operating handbook format and discussion about aircraft weight and balance, performance and handling characteristics.   The PDF version of the document includes a hyperlinked table of contents that simplifies navigation.  There is something for everybody in the document whether you are an instructor or just want to learn more about flying RV type airplanes.  The Word version of the document is designed to allow you to cut, paste and edit portions of the manual that you can include in your pilot's operating handbook for your airplane.   The current version of the documents below represent almost 10 years of work and collaboration within the Van's community, and we are always interested in improving the resources.  All inputs and critiques are always welcome and appreciated--we can only make this better with support from the Van's family!
